It's been another month already, time flies by fast. So far? I've been on a couple of interviews, but so far no luck. It's completely frustrating, there are many times that I just want to give up and settle into a stuffy finance office job. But I know that I can't give in and you know what...I won't.
Many months ago, my uncle asked me if there was any job in the world that you could do for free--- what would you do?
My answer? Opening up my own bakery. I'd even settle for just working in one.
I'd never knew how hard it would be to start at the bottom, but even dishwashers need experience right? RIGHT. Unfortunately I have none.
This week I get another, "We regret to inform you response..." Although it's a step up from having an interview and waiting for that phone call or email and you get nothing for weeks.
In other news, I have officially finished my flowers and cake design class. Whoo hoo! 2 classes down and 1 more to go. The class deals with mostly fondant and gum paste...exciting! :) I actually can't wait til some of my friends start to get married, I love the idea of making someone's dream wedding cake (cheesy I know :) Of course, I'll need more practice and hopefully I'll have a few more years of practice. Oh the possibilities of what you can do with cake! Below I've posted a couple of pictures of my practice cakes and cupcakes. Enjoy! Have a great rest of the week everyone (Cheers to those who get Cesar Chavez day off like me! heh).
I love piping in print only, sorry no cursive here. (This is part of my cousin's birthday cupcakes :)
My second cake project! It was so much fun piping the basket edge! :) I wish I had plain white sheet cakes to practice on...wouldn't it be cool to head to Costco bakery after hours? hehehe
This is not one of my cupcakes, but I thought it was a really sweet gesture. I got a pair of cutie cupcakes from my interview in Brentwood. Crazy, since after I left I went straight on a 6 hour drive to SF (let that excuse my bad picture taking skills)

It's not what its cracked up to be!
Remember that old saying, life is never the way you thought it would turn out?
Well my cupcakes always turn out never the way I want them to. Sometimes I envision something so beautiful and perfect and yet, it never comes out to my specifications. Well that's life right? RIGHT.
Happy Belated Valentine's Day to everyone! Well in the spirit of this holiday (whether you like it, love it, or just don't care) I've made cupcakes again! :) Not my best work, but I am working on it.
This is a simple, buttery vanilla cupcake (recipe from Magnolia's Bakery) with a vanilla buttercream (in pink of course :) I've also added some strawberry filling (yes, with real strawberries!). Does that make it more fit for V-day? I suppose so. Enjoy.
You'll be much happier with the quality of your life, if you do something you love. I read this in a Yahoo! article and it's spot on. Don't you think?

I love chocolate!
Who doesn't? Although I hear that people who tend to favor vanilla (ice cream and such) tend to be the wildly exciting, super adventurous and spontaneous ones. Oh well...
Hello readers!
Happy Baking!
Hello readers!
I absolutely love a sweet and savory chocolate cake. Nothing beats it. Sometimes I wish I could have a nice tall glass of chocolate milk with it---but not anymore! I hate being lactose intolerant. Anywho, I made these cupcakes to celebrate the new year (the year of the rabbit!) and brought them to work. Somehow work and cupcakes are a great mix.
I got this recipe from this free-trial magazine, called "Cuisine at home". It just landed in my mailbox, just my luck! :)
The recipe can be found at this following link:
Old-fashioned Chocolate Cake with the Glossy Chocolate Icing:
I love this type of frosting, smooth and rich, full of pure chocolately goodness! Sorry buttercream lovers this ain't for you. I also used some italian coffee roast from Starbucks (part of the coffee granules), which made it chocolate and coffee which is just pure love. I can't wait to try different kinds of blends!
For this cake I actually made cupcakes. I made about 20 cupcakes and the time frame is about cut in half to about 18-20 minutes in the oven.
Happy Baking!

Here's to New Beginnings!
So I'm giving this blogging thing another shot, a baking blog that is.
My first post-grad job interview was yesterday, although it didn't go as well as I hoped...I'm happy that I was given an opportunity to meet with an Executive Chef. The bakery was pretty amazing too, glass windows surrounding the kitchen where you can see the staff at work (i just love that).
So I sat there in my bed last night, being my pessimistic self again and started to point out all the mistakes that had occurred during my interview. After all that badgering, one thought occurred to me: that no matter what happens regardless, to just keep baking. To just keep baking. (hence the name of my blog :).
I know that I've started a couple of other blogs, with failed attempts to document solely to baking but I promise this time around to dedicate this blog to baking (Yes, that's right, no more ranting about the Lakers and other non-important NBA teams. Done and done).
Cheers to a new year and a new start! :)
